friday night green anole

perksofbeingodd submitted: So I saw the previous post about a lizard and I wanted to share the pictures of this little green guy I spent like 15 or 20 minutes taking pictures of. At first he didn’t move but when I just leaned against the railing on the porch with my camera pointed at him I think he realized that I wasn’t a threat and he started puffing out his fin thingy. But I might also be wrong that was his way of telling me to fuck off lol.

thats a green anole ! and what a bright little man…. the flap on their chin is called a DEWLAP and when one gets flashed it usually means watch out !!! dont touch me !!! im dangerous !!! im three hundred feet tall !!!!!!! ( they also do pushups )

green anoles can shift their colors gradually from this bright green to brown based on mood and temperature, so its sometimes hard to figure em out right off the bat - like so….

this one might be a female, in which case what you see is what you get ( and no complaints here ) - but if theyre a juvenile male then when they grow up theyll get bright blue bellies !

emerald-of-the-eight:

The mechanism in place that allows some lizards to regrow tails is incredible, but not foolproof. Lizards may accidentally “re-grow” multiple tails from one wound, especially in instances where the tail was only partially injured. The result is sometimes like the San Diego alligator lizard above [Elgaria multicarinata]. Images by Joshua Nyhus.
